Getting Your Free Water Bottle

As you might have read on my Bike to Work Week overview, participants are eligible to receive a free water bottle. This article will tell you how.

Bike-to-Work Week is only step one of my capstone project. In order to reach my goal of improving bikeability in this area, I want to make some improvements to the bike infrastructure within Johnson City. Increasing participation is great, but it is not the only thing that needs to be done. To receive your free water bottle, please submit your route data from participating in this event. This data will then be compiled to find out which areas are most in need of being addressed in terms of bikeability.

At the start of Bike-to-Work Week, there will be a form that you can access to share your route data. It will require a screenshot of your route (Strava, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Komoot, etc.) and a little bit of information about your ride. Be prepared to answer questions such as “how often did you interact with automobile traffic,” “were you able to safely park your bike at a bike rack,” and “were there any bike paths or lanes for you to use” These are possible questions as of now, but all questions will remain simple and quick to answer. The last question will ask if you wish to receive the free water bottle.

There will also be a place to add any pictures you took of you participating in Bike-to-Work Week. By submitting these pictures to me, you are allowing me to use them to promote Bike Layne. You are also welcome (and encouraged) to post any photos to social media. Use the hashtags #bikelayne #bike2workweek and #bikeability so that I can be sure to see them. Photos submitted with the form may be used on the website. Social media posts using the above hashtags may be shared by Bike Layne social media.

There are a few ways to receive your water bottle. First, Bike Layne will be attending the October Taco Trek and can hand out the water bottles to participants there. There will also be times on ETSU campus where Bike Layne will set up for a few hours for anyone to drop by and pick up their bottles. These times will be announced at the end of September.

As always, feel free to ask me any questions about this project or about receiving a water bottle.

P.S. a lucky few may even get a free t-shirt along with their water bottle. More details on that can be found on the event overview here.
